Zuckerberg uses AI agent to pull data inside Meta, sources say

Zuckerberg Builds AI Agent to Help Run Meta as Staff Test Tools

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is developing an AI agent to help manage the company and is already using it to retrieve data directly, as employees test new tools to speed work and cut internal friction.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is building an artificial intelligence agent to help manage the company and is already using it to pull information directly, according to people familiar with the effort.

The agent remains in development but has been deployed by Zuckerberg to retrieve data without routing requests through multiple teams, the people noted. The initiative aims to lift productivity and reduce friction across about 78,000 employees and to keep pace with AI-first startups that operate with leaner headcounts.

Inside Meta, staff are testing AI tools designed to automate routine work and ease collaboration. MyClaw provides access to work files and chat logs and can facilitate conversations with colleagues or their AI counterparts, according to people with knowledge of the rollout. Another tool, Second Brain, built on Anthropic’s Claude, helps organize and accelerate project work. Some employees describe Second Brain as an “AI chief of staff.”

Zuckerberg has outlined a timeline for how AI could reshape operations. On an earnings call in late January, he projected that 2026 is when “AI starts to dramatically change the way” Meta works. He added, “our north star is building the best place for individuals to make a massive impact. So to do this, we’re investing in AI-native tooling so individuals at Meta can get more done, we’re elevating individual contributors, and flattening teams.”

With more AI capabilities coming online, leadership has reviewed the company’s organizational structure, per people briefed on internal discussions. Options under consideration include further staffing cuts to reduce costs and capture efficiency gains from AI systems. Scenarios discussed could affect up to 20% of the workforce, with no timeline set and the scope still under review.

A company spokesperson characterized reports of potential reductions as “a speculative report about theoretical approaches.” Meta declined to comment on reports about Zuckerberg’s personal AI agent.

Large technology companies and newer rivals are racing to embed generative AI into internal workflows and consumer products. In recent weeks, several crypto-focused firms have cited AI initiatives while restructuring staff, including Messari, which announced leadership changes and layoffs, and Crypto.com, which reported a 12% reduction in headcount.
