X launches Smart Cashtags on iPhone in US and Canada

X launched Smart Cashtags on iPhone for U.S. and Canadian users, adding real-time stock and crypto data, asset-specific feeds and a Wealthsimple trading pilot in Canada.
X rolled out Smart Cashtags on iPhone for users in the United States and Canada on April 15, 2026. The feature embeds real-time stock and cryptocurrency prices into cashtag pages and adds dedicated feeds for individual assets.
When users search for or post a cashtag or contract address, the app suggests matching stocks or tokens. Tapping a cashtag opens a feed of related posts alongside a live price chart so users can follow market discussion and price changes without leaving the app.
X is running a pilot with Canadian brokerage Wealthsimple that places a trading button on cashtag pages for Canadian users. That button lets Canadian customers place buy and sell orders through Wealthsimple from within X.
X Head of Product Nikita Bier announced the rollout after the feature was first revealed in January 2026. Bier wrote, “X has always been the best source of financial news for traders and investors. Billions of dollars are allocated every day based on what people read on Timeline.” He added that the platform views content as “valuable & actionable, so trading should be frictionless,” and called the Wealthsimple integration “just a small preview of what’s to come.”
At launch the functionality is limited to iPhone users in the U.S. and Canada. Bier wrote that web, Android and broader international support are planned to arrive soon.
The rollout follows months of anticipation about X’s push into financial services and aligns with owner Elon Musk’s stated goal of expanding the app’s functionality beyond social media.
X says Smart Cashtags aims to reduce ambiguity around ticker symbols and token contract addresses by suggesting assets automatically and aggregating related posts on a single feed.
