X’s Cashtags Fuel $1B in In‑App Stock and Crypto Trades

X’s Cashtags generated about $1 billion in in‑app stock and crypto trades within days by adding live charts and trading links to timelines for iPhone users in the U.S. and Canada.

X’s pilot of Cashtags produced an estimated $1 billion in global trading volume within days of its launch, according to X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier. The feature embeds live price charts, market data and trading links into users’ timelines for iPhone users in the U.S. and Canada. Tapping ticker symbols such as $BTC, $ETH or $AAPL opens a compact view with a price chart, related posts and market conversations without leaving the app. Bier described Cashtags as “just the first step in our commitment to be the best destination for the finance and crypto community.”

X has paired Cashtags with a pilot integration with Wealthsimple, a Canadian brokerage. The integration lets users select a ticker inside X, view market data and then continue into their Wealthsimple account to complete a trade. Wealthsimple co‑founder and chief product officer Brett Huneycutt characterized the link as turning investment conversations on X into near‑instant trading opportunities. Victoria Belton, a Wealthsimple communications representative, said X does not receive Wealthsimple user data and that trades remain executed on Wealthsimple’s platform.

Elon Musk announced an early public rollout of X Money, a peer‑to‑peer payment wallet slated to begin in April. It is not yet clear whether X Money will support cryptocurrency transfers. Analysts at Mizuho warned that regulatory hurdles could complicate any digital asset features tied to X Money. Senator Elizabeth Warren raised concerns that the planned payment system poses consumer, financial and security risks and warned that offering a 6% annual percentage yield could push the company toward riskier investments.

Canadian regulators recently allowed Wealthsimple to expand into prediction markets, a move that broadens the firm’s trading products and allows users to place bets on outcomes such as economic indicators and climate measures. The Wealthsimple integration with X links discussion and market data on the social platform to trading accounts that remain off‑platform.

X has previously said it aims to build financial tools rather than act as a brokerage. Company officials say they will continue rolling out finance features to iPhone users in the U.S. and Canada as the Cashtags pilot expands. Early pilot activity, X officials say, reflects strong user engagement with finance and crypto content on the platform.
