Filmmaker Frank Zarrillo is seeking distribution for Vaccaro: Vegas Bookie, a 74‑minute documentary that chronicles Jimmy Vaccaro’s 50‑year career as a Las Vegas oddsmaker. The film condenses more than 14 hours of footage and is being shopped with the help of Richard Paraiso and Linda Bose of the Empire Agency.
Zarrillo began filming after meeting Vaccaro at the South Point in August 2024. He followed the bookmaker through roughly two months of daily shoots, capturing long interviews and routine scenes inside the sportsbook. Zarrillo, whose past projects have focused on athletes, did not place bets while filming in order to concentrate on documenting Vaccaro.
The finished film features Vaccaro telling career stories on camera, interviews with peers and friends from the casino world, and a rare interview with South Point owner Michael Gaughan. Producer Eric Landrum helped structure the film around Vaccaro’s accounts and comments from colleagues who worked with him over decades.
Vaccaro’s arc in the film moves from his upbringing outside Pittsburgh to his rise as a widely known oddsmaker in Las Vegas. The documentary highlights moments such as Vaccaro being the only oddsmaker to post lines on the 1990 Mike Tyson‑Buster Douglas fight and his part in developing prop bets that later became common in sports wagering. It also includes lighter items that intersected with pop culture, including when Vaccaro posted odds on who killed Mr. Burns on an episode of The Simpsons.
Vaccaro retired after five decades in the business and returned to Western Pennsylvania. He was cautious when the project began but became more engaged as filming progressed. Zarrillo recalled a handshake near the end of production that indicated Vaccaro’s approval and respect after many conversations and daily shoots.
Vaccaro told the director he wanted to see the finished film. “When you’re done with it just let me know. I want to watch it too,” he said, and later described the final work as truthful. He noted that friends who have viewed it responded positively and that the film does not exaggerate events.
The edit reduces the raw footage to a 74‑minute runtime intended to present key career highlights alongside context about the sportsbook environment and Las Vegas over the decades. The film includes cameos from industry figures, including poker player Mike Matusow, and documents Vaccaro’s television and online appearances that raised his public profile before wider legalization of sports betting.
Zarrillo and his collaborators are now seeking a distribution partner to place Vaccaro: Vegas Bookie on a platform or network. The team has shown rough cuts to Vaccaro and other participants during postproduction and says the final version reflects the subject’s account and voice.
