Strategy Adds 34,164 BTC in $2.54B Buy as STRC Demand Surges
Strategy bought 34,164 BTC for about $2.54 billion, funded by $2.17 billion in STRC preferred-stock sales and $366 million from new MSTR shares as STRC demand surged.
Strategy disclosed on April 20, 2026 that it purchased 34,164 BTC for about $2.54 billion, paying roughly $74,395 per bitcoin. The company described the acquisition as its largest to date. The purchase raised Strategy’s total holdings to 815,061 BTC, acquired for about $61.56 billion at an average price of $75,527 per coin. Strategy reported a bitcoin yield of 9.5% year-to-date in 2026.
The funding for the purchase came primarily from preferred-stock sales and a block of new common shares. Strategy sold 21.7 million STRC preferred shares for approximately $2.17 billion and issued 2.16 million new MSTR common shares that raised about $366 million. Company filings and trading updates showed STRC reached $2.17 billion in volume as of April 14 and generated roughly $2.2 billion in proceeds for the week of the sale.
STRC was trading near $99.36, about $0.64 below the at-the-market rate used for recent sales. April’s ex-dividend schedule contributed to concentrated buying as investors sought to qualify for the preferred stock’s 11.5% annual dividend. To spread demand and reduce the concentration of trading around ex-dividend dates, Strategy will shift STRC dividend payments from monthly to bi-weekly starting in July 2026.
MSTR common stock provided additional liquidity for the transaction and for dividend obligations. The common stock rose more than 31% over the prior week and was trading around $166.52 in market data cited by the company. Strategy said it used MSTR as a secondary source of cash and retains authority to issue additional shares under its at-the-market facility, including authorization for another $21 million in stock sales.
Market data showed bitcoin climbed above $75,000 during the period and paused near $78,000. Exchange-traded funds and large institutional holders increased holdings in the same timeframe, according to market activity referenced by the company. Strategy described the purchase as part of an extended fundraising cycle that met demand for STRC and provided cash to scale its bitcoin acquisitions.
