Snowflake launches Cortex Code, Cloud Agents and new connectors

Snowflake unveiled Cortex Code and Cloud Agents, added AWS Glue, Databricks and Postgres connectors, and previewed a VS Code extension plus Snowsight Plan Mode.

Snowflake introduced Cortex Code and Cloud Agents, added connectors for AWS Glue, Databricks and Postgres, and previewed a Visual Studio Code extension and a Plan Mode for Snowsight in a company announcement. The updates target software development teams and business users working with Snowflake’s AI features.

Cortex Code is a coding and orchestration layer for enterprise development teams. It can link directly to AWS Glue, Databricks and Postgres and can connect to other language models using MCP and ACP protocols. Snowflake described ACP as a commerce-focused agent communication protocol that emerged around the same time as Anthropic’s MCP. An Agent Software Development Kit for Python and TypeScript is available so developers can embed Cortex Code functions into their own applications.

The Visual Studio Code extension is in private preview and Snowflake is developing a plugin to bring Claude Code into the platform. Cloud Agents are in private preview and are planned to appear in Snowsight, Snowflake’s browser interface. Plan Mode will let users preview and approve automated workflows before AI execution. The company is building a tool to show end users more detail about longer model research processes used to check the veracity of outputs.

Snowflake reported that more than 9,100 customers use its AI products weekly. Since the company launched its AI offering six months ago, it said over half of its customers are using Snowflake Intelligence and Cortex Code. Snowflake stated that the new connectors, plus mobile and browser-based options, are intended to support enterprises with embedded workflows and existing software platforms.

Sameer Vuyyuru, chief AI and product officer at Capita, commented: “Snowflake helps us deploy AI securely and with the right governance across highly regulated, citizen-facing services where performance, compliance and trust are critical.”

Many of the announced features are rolling out in private preview. Snowflake said broader availability and additional integrations will follow as testing completes and developer access expands.
