Riot Reveals VCT 2027: Unified Circuit and Open Qualifiers

Riot Games will replace the current VCT structure in 2027 with a single global circuit, open regional qualifiers for unaffiliated teams, and a new calendar linking regional and international events.

Riot Games announced its VCT 2027 format, replacing the current fragmented setup with a unified global competition system. The plan pairs open regional qualifiers with partner-run leagues and establishes a single calendar and rule set for progression to international events.

Under the new model, open regional qualifiers will allow any eligible team to enter. Teams that advance from those brackets move into higher-level regional stages and can then qualify for mid-season international events and the season-ending world championship under a common progression system.

Riot outlined a multi-phase season in which early open qualifiers feed regional league play and mid-season international events. A reworked set of marquee tournaments will determine direct entries and award points toward the year-end championship.

The company will standardize match formats, roster rules, broadcast standards, player eligibility rules and transfer windows. Unified officiating protocols and shared approaches to event staging and production will reduce differences between regions and simplify scheduling for teams and broadcasters.

Riot said it will coordinate with regional partners and provide support for grassroots organizers running qualifiers. A full rule book and schedule will be published well before the 2027 season to give teams and partners time to prepare.

Prize distribution and event slots will be linked to performance within the unified circuit. Riot plans to publish specific details on slot allocation, point systems and prize structures in follow-up documents. Existing partner investments will remain part of the ecosystem and partner league results will be integrated into the global qualification picture.

Riot has adjusted the VCT format several times since launching Valorant esports, shifting between open Challenger events, regional leagues and invited spots at international tournaments. The 2027 format combines open pathways for unaffiliated teams with partner-operated leagues inside a single global framework.

Riot’s next public updates will specify qualification numbers, exact calendar dates and the mechanics for integrating open qualifiers with partner leagues.
