PGL Bucharest 2026 viewership drops 32% in group stage
Group stage drew just over 6 million hours watched, a 32% decline from 2025, with 126,900 average viewers and a 317,000 peak amid lineup changes and absences.
The PGL Bucharest 2026 group stage concluded April 8 in Bucharest. Broadcasters reported just over 6 million hours watched, an average concurrent audience of 126,900 and a peak concurrent viewership of 317,000. Hours watched and average viewership declined 32% compared with 2025.
Astralis and FUT Esports finished the group stage unbeaten and secured the top playoff seeds. The MongolZ and PARIVISION also advanced to the knockout bracket. BC.Game Esports, which featured Oleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyliev, failed to qualify for the playoffs.
FaZe Clan missed its first two group matches because the team competed at another event. The squad arrived for its final elimination match against Inner Circle Esports and lost, eliminating its chance to qualify for the IEM Cologne Major 2026.
Several teams that appeared in 2025 were absent from Bucharest, including Team Falcons, FURIA and G2 Esports. FaZe Clan’s absence from the opening rounds removed several marquee matches from the early schedule.
Portuguese-language viewership declined sharply. Channels operated by Alexandre Borba ‘Gaules’ Chiqueta drew nearly half the audience they did in 2025. Organizers pointed to the absence of Brazilian teams such as FURIA and paiN Gaming as a factor in that market.
The most-watched group-stage match was The MongolZ versus BC.Game, which peaked at 279,800 concurrent viewers. By comparison, last year’s top group-stage matchup, The MongolZ versus Team Falcons, peaked at about 338,000 viewers. The fifth-round elimination series between PARIVISION and Wildcard featured a Mirage map that went to multiple overtimes and finished 28:26 before PARIVISION closed the series 2-0.
The playoffs began April 9. The Grand Final and third-place match are scheduled for April 11. Knockout matchups include 3DMAX versus MIBR, Astralis versus EYEBALLERS, B8 Esports versus FUT Esports, and The MongolZ versus PARIVISION.
