MPL Indonesia S17 peak viewers fall 11% after RRQ exit
MPL Indonesia Season 17 Regular Season peaked near 2.3 million viewers, an 11% decline from last season after RRQ Hoshi finished 2-14 and missed the Playoffs.
The MPL Indonesia Season 17 Regular Season reached almost 2.3 million peak viewers, about 11% fewer than the same stage last season. The highest audience came during ONIC Esports’ Week 1, Day 3 match against RRQ Hoshi. RRQ’s Week 4 meeting with Bigetron by Vitality was the only other match to top two million peak viewers.
RRQ Hoshi ended the Regular Season with a 2-14 record and did not qualify for the Playoffs. ONIC Esports finished first with a 13-3 record. Team Liquid ID was the only other team with double-digit wins. Alter Ego, the runner-up at the most recent world championship, finished 7-9 and also failed to advance.
Two play-in matches are scheduled for June 10: Dewa United versus Geek Fam ID, and Bigetron by Vitality versus EVOS. Winners of those matches will meet Team Liquid ID and ONIC Esports, respectively, in the Upper Bracket Semifinals. Losers of the play-ins will be eliminated from the tournament.
Other viewership measures rose compared with the previous split. Total watch time and average viewers for the Regular Season increased while peak audience fell. RRQ remained the most popular team by average viewers and appeared in the five highest-attended Regular Season matches. Viewer interest in RRQ’s matches increased as the team’s losing streak continued. Alter Ego’s matches also generated more watch time than in the prior split.
At present Season 17 ranks seventh on the series’ list of most popular tournaments. Organizers and audience trackers will monitor Playoffs numbers to report final audience figures.
