Meta Pays Creators in USDC via Polygon and Solana
Meta is paying creators in USD Coin via Stripe on Polygon and Solana, starting in Colombia and the Philippines with plans to expand to more than 160 markets.
Meta Platforms has started paying creators in USD Coin (USDC) through Stripe, routing payouts on the Polygon and Solana blockchains. The program is currently live in Colombia and the Philippines and is planned to expand to more than 160 markets.
Meta confirmed the change on its website and Polygon Labs announced the rollout on April 29. Stripe converts Meta’s creator payments into USDC and sends the tokens onto Polygon or Solana, where transactions settle faster and fees are lower than many traditional cross-border payment methods.
USDC is a fully reserved stablecoin that preserves dollar value on-chain without a Meta-issued token. Creators who opt in can receive USDC in compatible wallets, hold it on-chain, or use local off-ramps to convert to local currency where those services are available.
Meta previously pursued a proprietary digital currency, known as Libra and later Diem, but abandoned the project after political and regulatory opposition between 2020 and 2022. The company now uses an established stablecoin and third-party payout rails rather than issuing its own asset.
Polygon Labs said Meta paid nearly $3 billion to creators in 2025. Routing even a portion of that volume on-chain would increase routine blockchain payment activity. Polygon describes its “Open Money Stack” as infrastructure to help recipients convert on-chain dollars into local currency or spend them where supported.
Patrick Collison, Stripe’s CEO, described stablecoins as ‘a fundamental component of digital commerce’, and said businesses are moving stablecoin functionality into production and replacing conventional payout systems with faster, programmable options.
Meta’s role in the arrangement is focused on distributing creator payments through existing crypto rails. The company plans to broaden access to creators across more than 160 markets via Stripe’s expanded payout tools.
