Laserfiche unveils AI agents for natural-language workflows

Laserfiche launched AI agents for Laserfiche Cloud on May 7, 2026. The agents accept plain-language instructions through Smart Chat, use generative large language models to carry out reasoning and actions, and enforce the platform’s built-in security and compliance rules to help protect sensitive data.
Users access the agents through Smart Chat, a conversational interface that restricts each agent’s actions to the user’s permissions and any account restrictions. Laserfiche says the system analyzes document content to locate specific information and then can search, route, update or organize content without requiring code.
The company highlighted early applications in legal, accounts payable and human resources. In legal teams, agents can flag inconsistencies in contracts and forward items for human review. For accounts payable, agents can find overdue invoices and route them to the teams responsible for resolution. In HR, agents can scan employee records for attributes such as age, address or gender and move documents into folders configured to the correct security level.
Initial functionality supports one-time actions initiated from Smart Chat. Laserfiche plans software updates to embed agents in business processes, allow agents to run continuously in the background and enable monitoring for defined conditions. The company says agents follow the platform’s integrated security rules and compliance requirements so actions remain aligned with governance policies.
Karl Chan, CEO of Laserfiche, described the release as a change in how organizations handle the information lifecycle: agents shift routine work into a governance framework while keeping compliance central. Justin Pava, chief product evangelist at Laserfiche, noted that automatically extracted metadata and AI-assisted search should reduce time spent organizing data and let users act on information more quickly.
The AI agent features are available to Laserfiche Cloud customers beginning May 7, 2026.
