IEM Cologne Major 2026 Enters Top Six Most-Watched CS Events

IEM Cologne Major 2026 entered the top six most-watched Counter-Strike events before playoffs after Stage 3 used best-of-three matches, raising watch time 88% and average viewers 22.3% vs Budapest.

IEM Cologne Major 2026 reached the sixth spot in cumulative hours watched for Counter-Strike events before the playoffs, driven by a redesigned Stage 3 that used best-of-three series for every match and more than 20 hours of airtime.

Organizers reported Stage 3 produced an 88% increase in total watch time and a 22.3% rise in average concurrent viewers compared with the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 Stage 3. Peak viewership for Stage 3 was more than 25% higher than the Budapest benchmark.

The highest audience during Stage 3 came for Team Falcons versus Natus Vincere. That match drew the first one-million concurrent viewers of the day and was the only Stage 3 series to reach seven figures. Falcons beat NAVI on a deciding map to clinch a playoff spot. Falcons’ opening match against G2 Esports also approached one million viewers; the tournament was the team’s first Major after entering directly into Stage 3 and the organization’s first with Finn “karrigan” Andersen as captain.

Several pre-tournament favorites failed to progress. Natus Vincere, MOUZ and The MongolZ were eliminated in the final rounds of Stage 3. Two lower-seeded teams, 9z and BB Team, secured places in the quarterfinals. 9z defeated The MongolZ in a decider and registered a peak of 115,000 concurrent viewers on Spanish-language streams, a first for Spanish-language Counter-Strike broadcasts. 9z will face FURIA in an all–South American quarterfinal.

BB Team advanced after a comeback run that included moving through Stage 1 with a modified roster and a key victory over FUT. BB Team will meet Aurora in the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal bracket pairs G2 Esports with Team Spirit and Team Falcons with Team Vitality on one side. The other side features FURIA, 9z, Aurora Gaming and BB Team. Quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on the LANXESS Arena main stage as best-of-three series, and the tournament will conclude with a best-of-five grand final.

Organizers and broadcasters attributed the viewing gains to the full best-of-three format in Stage 3, saying the expanded schedule produced more competitive minutes and several closely contested series that increased total airtime and average viewership.
