Anthropic Says 80x Growth After Taking Over Colossus 1

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said Q1 2026 annualized growth hit 80x after the company agreed to operate SpaceX’s Colossus 1 in Memphis, adding more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs.

Anthropic reported an 80x annualized growth rate in Q1 2026, CEO Dario Amodei said at the company’s developer conference in San Francisco on May 6. The company said its annualized revenue run rate topped $30 billion, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025, after agreeing to operate SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center in Memphis and add more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs within weeks.

The Colossus 1 agreement gives Anthropic access to over 300 megawatts of power capacity at the Memphis facility. The center was built for xAI to power Grok and will be operated by Anthropic under the deal. Anthropic has also arranged multibillion-dollar compute agreements with Amazon for up to 5 gigawatts and with Google and Broadcom for an additional 3.5 gigawatts beginning in 2027.

Anthropic said the added capacity will let it raise paid plan rate limits for Claude Code, remove peak-hour usage caps for paid Pro and Max accounts, and increase request volumes for Opus models. Claude Code launched in mid-2025 and reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate within six months, the company reported.

The company reported more than 1,000 enterprise customers that each spend over $1 million per year on Claude services, a figure that has doubled since February. Roughly 80% of Anthropic’s revenue now comes from enterprise clients. Among the company’s top 50 customers, 40% are financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, Visa and Citi.

Executives are in talks to raise about $50 billion at a valuation above $900 billion. The company is also considering an initial public offering as early as October 2026 and has held early discussions with major investment banks. In secondary markets, Anthropic shares have traded at prices that imply valuations near $1 trillion.

Amodei described the rapid expansion as ‘just crazy’ and ‘too hard to handle.’ He added that the growth is ‘a foreshadowing of how things are going to work across the economy.’

Two years earlier Anthropic operated primarily as a safety-focused research lab that was spending capital on development. The company said it has increased infrastructure commitments and sales efforts to meet growing customer demand.
