Alberta Opens Regulated iGaming Market on July 13

Alberta’s regulated online gambling market opens July 13, allowing licensed sportsbooks and casinos such as FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM and Caesars to enter the province.

Alberta’s regulated online gambling market will open on July 13, allowing licensed sportsbooks and online casinos to accept wagers in the province. Forty-nine operators have registered with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis commission, though only some are expected to be live on day one.

The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis commission will act as the regulator. The Alberta iGaming Corporation will manage commercial operations and the conduct-and-manage functions. Operators must complete commercial agreements with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and finish platform integrations before they can begin taking bets.

Registration filings list 49 operators, 56 critical gaming systems providers and 14 platform providers. Registered operators include FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, bet365, BetRivers, theScore Bet, Bally’s, PointsBet, BET99, 888, TonyBet, Betway, Pure Casino Entertainment and River Cree iGaming. Industry participants expect the market to roll out in phases, with more operators going live in the weeks and months after July 13.

Several major operators have published launch plans. FanDuel plans to offer Casino and Sportsbook products in Alberta and announced local contributions of C$50,000 to the A Dollar A Day Foundation and C$30,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Emergency Management Program. FanDuel also expanded its partnership with the Canadian Football League and secured an exclusive content agreement to bring the Huff N’ Puff franchise to Alberta. DraftKings intends to launch DraftKings Sportsbook, DraftKings Casino and Golden Nugget Online Gaming, and will hold a FIFA World Cup watch event in Calgary on July 11 while contributing C$150,000 to Food Banks Alberta. BetMGM has promoted its casino content, live dealer games and mobile products ahead of launch. Caesars opened pre-registration earlier in the year and plans to offer Caesars Palace Online Casino, Caesars Sportsbook & Casino and Horseshoe Online Casino.

Not all registered companies have set launch plans. Some North American operators, including Fanatics and Hard Rock Bet, have not announced entries. The initial live roster will depend on completed commercial agreements with the Alberta iGaming Corporation, platform integrations and regulatory approvals.

Alberta’s framework mirrors the open-market model that another Canadian province introduced in 2022, allowing multiple private operators to compete under provincial oversight. That jurisdiction reported C$4.04 billion in iGaming revenue in 2025, a 34% increase from 2024.

Alberta has roughly five million residents and above-average household incomes. A significant portion of online gambling activity in the province has historically taken place on offshore or grey-market sites. A 2024 projection from Citizens JMP Securities estimated Alberta could generate more than C$700 million in annual revenue if market uptake resembles other regulated areas, with about C$200 million from sports betting and C$500 million from online casinos.

Regulators and operators expect both sports betting and online casino products to be available from the start, and additional operators and content partners to join the market after opening day.
