Alberta iGaming to launch July 13 with major operators
Alberta’s regulated iGaming market opens July 13. FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, bet365 and others plan launches pending regulatory approval.
Alberta will open a regulated iGaming market on July 13, allowing licensed online sportsbooks and casino sites to operate in the province. The framework covers both sports betting and online casino gaming and largely follows Ontario’s competitive model.
Several major operators have registered and outlined launch plans subject to regulatory approval. FanDuel plans to offer Casino and Sportsbook products and announced local contributions of C$50,000 to the A Dollar A Day Foundation and C$30,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Emergency Management Program, along with a renewed partnership with the Canadian Football League that extends to Alberta and adds a casino category. FanDuel also secured an exclusive deal with Light & Wonder to bring the Huff N’ Puff slot to the province. DraftKings intends to launch DraftKings Sportsbook and DraftKings Casino alongside Golden Nugget Online Gaming, will host a FIFA World Cup watch party in Calgary on July 11, and announced a C$150,000 donation to Food Banks Alberta. BetMGM has promoted exclusive casino content and live-dealer games for its planned launch. Caesars opened pre-registration and plans to introduce Caesars Palace Online Casino, Caesars Sportsbook & Casino and Horseshoe Online Casino.
Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis lists 49 registered operators, 56 critical gaming systems providers and 14 platform providers. Registered names include PointsBet, BET99, 888, TonyBet and Betway, as well as local and Indigenous-affiliated operators such as Pure Casino Entertainment and River Cree iGaming. Some registered companies, including Fanatics and Hard Rock Bet, have not announced immediate plans to go live.
Registration with the regulator is one step. Operators must complete commercial arrangements with the Alberta iGaming Corporation before accepting wagers. Because of technical, commercial and compliance requirements, only a subset of registered operators is expected to be live on July 13, with additional launches over the following months.
Under the province’s structure, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis will act as regulator and the Alberta iGaming Corporation will manage market conduct and operations in a role comparable to iGaming Ontario. The framework allows multiple private companies to offer iGaming under provincial oversight and includes licensed platforms with consumer protections and responsible-gambling tools.
Alberta has about five million residents and relatively high household incomes. Industry estimates have projected annual iGaming revenue north of C$700 million, with around C$200 million from sports betting and C$500 million from online casinos. Ontario’s regulated market reported C$4.04 billion in iGaming revenue in 2025, up 34% from 2024.
Regulators, operators and technology suppliers prepared for the launch over several months. Consumers should expect a phased rollout as remaining registrations and commercial contracts are completed.
